Edition 3 - Winter 2006

Baby It's Cold Outside!

Many people find that as soon as the weather turns, their nails begin to peel, become brittle and snap. The skin around the nails also dries out and can tear leading to soreness or infection. Lack of vitamin D from the sun also slows down growth. Harsh weather and central heating are the main culprits.

Putting essential moisture back into the nail plate through the use of oils is vital. Not only to keep the exposed nail healthy, but to also ensure that new nail growth is strong and rich in the essential moisture that will prevent peeling and drying from occurring. Exfoliation of dry skin around the nail plate will prevent tearing and will therefore minimise the risk of unsightly open wounds.  Shaping and buffing of the nail will encourage nail growth by stimulating cell reproduction, as does massaging nails.

To keep your hands and nails in good condition over the winter, try The Nail Lounge's 'Winter Sun Manicure', which includes nail shaping, nail plate buffing, cuticle exfoliating, nail and cuticle oiling, skin exfoliation, heated wax for those with very dry skin, matrix massaging and the use of a peeling/brittle nail treatment before polishing. All result in the ultimate protection of the nail plate to help get through the harsh winter months.

Turning our attention to the feet, many people forget about them tbe first day they pull socks or woolly tights on! Then, all of a sudden it's the Christmas Party season, the glittery sandals come out of the back of the wardrobe and ...... oh dear, feet and toenails look far from healthy and pretty.

If you've worn nail polish most of the summer, you may find that your toenails may be yellow and discoloured from staining. This is easily rectified during a pedicure with gentle buffing of the nail plate. To prevent future staining, always use a good quality Base Coat underneath polish, especially dark pigmented shades.

If your feet are always cold during winter, poor circulation is probably to blame. A foot and leg massage will improve your circulation and warm your tootsies.

The Nail Lounge is excited to announce the arrival of the 'RawEarth Pedicure'. A collection of earth-derived pedicure products filled with natural ingredients rich in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and essential oils to moisturise, soothe and polish the skin, it is both enriching and warming.

Starting with a fizzing mineral soak for cleansing and deodorising feet. Footclean contains antiseptic oils and malachite to deodorise and protect. Skin is then exfoliated with Footbuff, a raw sugar, water activated, warming AHA scrub. Providing multi-action exfoliation with citric acid, crystaline acid and raw sugar. Skin is conditioned with Footmask, a volcanic clay mask fortified with a rich blend of hydrating vitamins and minerals. Finally, skin is given a hydrating massage with Footrub, shielding the skin with a satin finish.

Perfect for the winter, this Pedicure will rejuvenate your feet ready for high heels and dancing the night away at the Christmas Party!
